Lil Wayne Describes Life in Prison
In a note posted on his official Weezy Thanx You blog, Lil Wayne has offered another glimpse into life behind bars at Rikers Island, giving fans an update on his day-to-day happenings. The MC has also offered a peek at the lyrics he’s been working on during his year-long sentence. “I’ve been writing and let me be the first to tell you that the lyrics that I’m writing are… well there’s no word that I can think of that properly defines them,” he writes. “Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair.” As Rolling Stone previously reported, Wayne has been musically active while in prison, contributing tracks to Drake’s “Light Up” remix, which he recorded over the prison telephone.

Wayne also responded to fans’ letters about his daily life at Rikers — and, aside from smoking copious amounts of marijuana and recording endlessly in the studio, it sounds like he has kept up many of his normal habits, including catching up on sports news. “I wake up around 11a.m.,” Wayne reports. “Have some coffee. Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail. Have lunch. Back on the phone. Read a book or write some thoughts down. Have dinner. Phone. Pushups. Then I listen to ESPN on the radio. Read the Bible, then sleep. That’s my day.”
As Rolling Stone previously reported, Wayne got into some minor trouble earlier in his prison stay after he was found with illegal contraband — unauthorized headphones, an iPod charger and, in a search of a neighboring cell, Wayne’s iPod — so Weezy hasn’t been able to keep up new music. However, Weezy admits, “I listen to the radio sometimes, emphasis on sometimes, and I hear the new music,” he writes. “I like some.”
In his prison update, Weezy sent his congratulations to his Young Money cohorts Drake and Nicki Minaj for their success while he’s been behind bars — “Those 2 are going to have me retiring early,” Wayne jokes — and also a belated congrats to the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately, Wayne, an avid sports fan, did not provide his take on the news of LeBron James joining the Miami Heat.
Wayne will be released in approximately 113 days and his manager, Cortez Bryant, recently revealed that Wayne will drop a new EP titled I’m Not a Human Being on September 27th, Wayne’s birthday.
