“Gossip Girl” Leighton Meester’s “Body Control” Leaks
Gossip Girl actress and fledgling singer Leighton Meester already has a summer hit on her hands with her contribution to Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad,” but the girl we call Blair Waldorf is looking to double her radio plays after “Body Control,” a track possibly off her upcoming debut album, leaked out over the 4th of July weekend. Meester, who will release her debut through Universal Republic later this year, looks to be mining Lady Gaga territory with “Body Control,” which sounds like a hyperactive new-millennial version of a Missing Persons song from the cascading synths to Meester’s androidic cooing vocals.
While its unclear who produced “Body Control,” Rock Daily reported that Meester had hit the studio with J.R. Rotem, Kenna and Polow da Don. Rolling Stone recently spoke to Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, who got a listen to some tracks off of Meester’s “earnest” debut disc. “All of my songs are sarcastic, so even the love songs are kind of perverted,” Saporta says. “But [Meester]’s are more love songs. This is her first record so I’m sure she’s been building up these emotions for five or six years.” Meester herself described her music as having an “electro-pop edge,” as evidenced by “Body Control.”
Meester isn’t the only member of the Gossip Girl cast who will be releasing music in the coming months: As Rock Daily previously reported, Taylor Momsen’s band the Pretty Reckless were signed to Interscope Records.
