Monterey Pop Festival 1967 Live Tapes to Air
Over the July 4th weekend, Radio Express will syndicate a nine-hour re-creation of the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Drawing from tapes of the actual event, the program will include at least half of the festival’s onstage performances. Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Otis Redding, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel and the Byrds are among the artists featured. Proceeds from the original festival helped start free medical clinics in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and a share of the proceeds from this broadcast will go to the L.A. Free Clinic, now celebrating its twentieth anniversary.
