Weiland Arrested for Battery
Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland was arrested on Monday night in Las Vegas after an alleged fight with his wife, Mary Weiland.
According to a police report, Mary Weiland tried to prevent her husband from leaving their room at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino to pick up a prescription, prompting him to push her against a wall and step on her. She then notified hotel security, who contacted local police.
Scott Weiland claimed that the prescription was written by a doctor for torn cartilage in the singer’s knee. According to Weiland’s wife, she worried about his acquiring the prescription due to his past history of drug abuse. In 1999, he was sentenced to a year in prison after violating his probation stemming from prior drug possession charges. He was released in January of this year. In August, Weiland told Rolling Stone that he suffers from bi-polar disorder, but he didn’t take his prescribed medication for the condition. “The thing was, I didn’t like the effects of it, so I don’t take it,” he said. “I don’t have fear of writing songs without being under the influence of narcotics or alcohol, but I have an incredible fear of writing songs without being able to feel my full range of emotions.”
Weiland was booked on Monday on a charge of domestic battery and was released after twelve hours after posting $3,000 bail. STP performed at the Hard Rock on Monday, part of the continuing promotion of their latest album, Shangri-La Dee Da, which was released this summer.
A court date has been set for mid-December.
