George R.R. Martin Provides Epic Twist to ‘Gay of Thrones’ Recap Show
Game of Thrones‘ epic fourth season may have ended with a bang, but Funny or Die’s weekly recap series, Gay of Thrones, has the twist to end all twists. Since season three, Los Angeles-based hair stylist Jonathan Van Ness has provided sharp, outrageous and fast-paced GoT episode recaps, giving each character their own special nickname (Arya Stark is, affectionately, “Baby Kristen Stewart”) and even welcoming a handful of special guests to his salon chair.

For his special finale recap, Van Ness scored a cameo from none other than George R.R. Martin, who plays a grandfather reading his son a hefty book, Gay of Thrones, which turns out to be — spoiler alert — a story about a Game of Thrones recap show with an LGBT perspective. Eat your heart out, Newhart finale.
But the shocks don’t end there: Van Ness is eventually stabbed by his friend Jeffery, who was sent by the Lannisters, a murder so shocking the grandson blurts out: ‘Why’d you kill Jonathan? He was my favorite!” “I didn’t say he was dead,” Martin responds. “Really? What happens next?” the grandson asks. “You’ll have to wait for the next book.”
While it’s always enjoyable to see Martin poke fun at his own notoriously slow writing pace, he might have to speed things up as the Game of Thrones storyline ekes closer to what’s already been published of his A Song of Ice and Fire series. While Martin did offer fans a new chapter from his next book, The Winds of Winter still doesn’t have a release date. Martin’s editor also recently hinted at the possibility of an eighth book to the series, so seriously don’t start holding your breath.
