A group of actors and musicians have banded together with environmental non-profit Global Green USA to assemble Gasoline Rainbows, a compilation to benefit communities affected by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Now, you can watch an exclusive preview of the album: Damien Rice’s “Connoisseur of Great Excuse.”
Gasoline Rainbows includes songs by LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros as well as previously unreleased tracks by Rice, Amy Kuney and City and Colour. It will be available exclusively as a download on November 30 through Roark Records.
The compilation was brought together by actors Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols, known for their roles on the hit show One Tree Hill, after they’d traveled with the Global Green organization to Grand Isle, Louisiana and seen the damage caused by the spill.
Rice’s track starts off gently and acoustically but gradually swells to include lush strings, horns and massed backing vocals that join him on the song’s keening melody for an dramatic finale.
