Pavement Reveal “Quarantine” Greatest Hits Track List
Pavement have revealed the 23 songs that will comprise their first greatest hits compilation, Quarantine the Past. As Rolling Stone previously reported, the reunited slack-rockers opened up a contest where fans tried to predict the album’s track list; the prize is a trip to New York to see Pavement perform in Central Park. The winning entry named 17 out of the 23 tracks, the Matador Blog writes, thanks in large part to the fact that 13 of the 23 tracks are culled from Pavement’s first two albums, Slanted & Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.
A trio of pre-Slanted cuts made the album, as did the band’s R.E.M. tribute “Unseen Power of the Picket Fence” from the No Alternative comp. Highlights include the band’s anthems “Gold Soundz,” “Grounded,” “In the Mouth a Desert” and “Cut Your Hair.” As Rolling Stone reported last week, Pavement will likely dust off a great many of the Quarantine tracks when they play the final day of this year’s Coachella Festival.
So, Pavement fans, we pose the question: What’s missing? As we said when news of Quarantine was first announced, polling a thousand Pavements fans would result in a thousand different track lists, but we also think all thousand would agree that the final Quarantine is criminally light on Terror Twilight, as only “Spit on a Stranger” represents Pavement’s final album (No “Cream of Gold” or “The Hexx”!). Also, the absence of Wowee‘s “Rattled By the Rush and Slanted‘s “Perfume V” slightly perturbs us. Check out the Quarantine track list below, and tell us what’s missing and what doesn’t belong in the comments:
