Courtney Love Hospitalized
Courtney Love endured a rough fortieth birthday on Friday. The singer had a bench warrant issued for her arrest by a Los Angeles judge after failing to show for an arraignment, and later that day she was handcuffed to a stretcher and taken to New York’s Bellevue Hospital for what was called a “gynecological medical condition,” according to reports.
Police investigated a complaint Friday afternoon that bottles were being thrown from Love’s fourth-floor apartment in New York City, but nothing came of the investigation. At 5 p.m., a 911 call was placed from her home claiming that she had suffered a miscarriage. Emergency Medical Service workers answered the call and took Love to Bellevue. An image of a distraught Love handcuffed to the stretcher was featured on the front page of Saturday’s New York Post. A statement from one of her attorneys said that the incident was “unrelated to any type of substance use or abuse.”
Earlier that day, Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Dennis E. Mulcahy issued a bench warrant for Love’s arrest. She was scheduled to appear in a L.A. courtroom to be arraigned on assault charges stemming from an April 25th incident in which Love allegedly attacked a woman with a bottle and flashlight. Love turned herself into police on June 11th and posted $55,000 bail. Due to the skipped date, Love’s bail has now been set at $150,000.
Love’s legal woes don’t end there: She is due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to being under the influence of a controlled substance last October. That incident also yielded drug possession charges, to which she is scheduled to be in court on July 15th. She also has a September hearing in New York for a separate assault case.
