Occupy Wall Street
On October 1st, 2011, the 15th day of the 'Occupy Wall Street' demonstration against the nation's financial system, more than 700 protesters were arrested on the roadway of the Brooklyn Bridge during 'We are the 99%' Solidarity March which was to end at Brooklyn Bridge Park. As the march from Zuccotti Park reached the bridge, most proceded up the pedestrian walkway as planned. A small group, chanting 'take the bridge!' gathered at the base of the Brooklyn-bound roadway and waved the marchers to join them. After the police warned of arrests, protesters began marching up the roadway, and stopped over the East River. A number of protesters at the back of the march claimed to not have heard the police warnings and felt they were misled. The following photos document these events.
