Britney Married, Again
Britney Spears married her fiance Kevin Federline in a surprise ceremony this Saturday. This is the twenty-two-year-old pop star’s second marriage: Spears married a childhood friend in a 5 a.m. ceremony in Las Vegas this January, before seeking an annulment fifty-five hours later.
Spears proposed to Federline — formerly a backup dancer for Spears’ ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake — herself, and purchased her own five-carat diamond engagement ring. The couple had dated for three months.
The nondenominational ceremony took place at a private home in Studio City, California, with about twenty guests in attendance, including Spears’ mother Lynne and younger sister actress Jamie Lynn. The couple ate chicken fingers and ribs, and danced to Journey. The wedding makes Spears not only a newlywed but an instant stepmother to twenty-six-year-old Federline’s two young daughters, a two-year-old and a newborn, with recent ex-girlfriend, Moesha actress Shar Jackson. (Spears and Federline became engaged before the birth of his second child.)
The wedding caps off a dramatic summer for Spears, who suffered a knee injury in June that caused her to cancel the remaining dates of her Onyx Hotel tour in support of her latest album, the multi-platinum In the Zone.
Three days before the wedding, Spears released the video for her new single, a cover of Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative,” featuring a scene in which she marries Federline in a dark nightclub setting. The single is included on Spears’ Greatest Hits: My Prerogative, due to hit stores November 9th.
