Motion City Soundtrack are set to close out their Making Moves seven-inch series – which highlighted emerging artists chosen by the group – with a release of their own featuring two new songs, “Severance” and “Major Leagues.” Out November 6th on Drexel University’s Mad Dragon Records, you can now hear “Major Leagues,” which the band recorded at Drexel’s recording studios with some student engineers working behind the board.
“‘Major Leagues’ was an idea that our guitarist Josh [Cain] brought to the band and I rewrote the chorus a few times as it was not as uplifting as the music,” frontman Justin Pierre says. “I hid in a dark room down the hall from Drexel’s Studio A and came up with the new chorus, but then had to figure out how to make the verses work. Luckily I only had to to change a few things in order to make that happen. The song has something to do with setting goals, attaining set goals, moments of confusion, and what happens next.”
As for the wrapping up the Making Moves series, Pierre added: “All in all, the experience of curating this Making Moves project with Drexel’s Mad Dragon Records was amazing. We got to work with a lot of talented individuals – from all the bands that recorded seven-inches to all the Drexel students that managed the releases. It was definitely an epic undertaking, but we are very excited about the outcome of our endeavor.”
