Update: Green Day Cancel Italy Show After Billie Joe Armstrong Is Hospitalized
Billie Joe Armstrong flew back to the United States today after losing his voice in Italy over the weekend, TMZ reports. The singer was hospitalized Saturday night in Bologna, forcing the band to cancel a concert Sunday. Bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool apologized to fans in a short video posted on the band’s website. “Billie got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness,” Dirnt says, “and, you know, the doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for him to play today.”
“We’re beyond devastated, we’re as sad as you guys are,” Cool adds. “Billie is extremely upset about it, and we’ll see you very soon.”
Though theres’s been no word about what exactly prompted Armstrong to go to the hospital, he mouthed “My voice is gone” in response to questions from reporters at the airport in Los Angeles.
Green Day plan to release three new albums over the next several months, starting with ¡Uno! September 25th and continuing with ¡Dos! November 23rd and ¡Tré! January 15th, 2013.
