Stone Temple Pilots Creep Back into Studio
Any time all four members of the Stone Temple
Pilots are in the same place at the same time it’s a
reunion.
The Pilots have been on a kamikaze mission with infamy for some
time now, and — with ample help from frontman Scott
Weiland — have traded jabs with it several times over the
course of their seven-year career. Now, STP will tempt fate again
with long-time producer Brendan O’Brien (Pearl
Jam, Matthew Sweet) and try their hand at recording their
long-awaited follow-up to 1996’s Tiny Music . . . Songs From
the Vatican Gift Shop.
According to band manager Steve Stewart, the band
is writing and rehearsing now in Los Angeles and will do so until
they begin rolling tape in March. O’Brien is currently finishing up
work on the third Rage Against the Machine album
and won’t be on hand full-time until he’s done, according to a
source close to the project.
Stewart says the new album will hit stores some time this summer,
and the band’s “intent is to tour this summer,” and, no, STP have
not been asked to perform on either Lollapalooza or OzzFest.
