Britney Spears’ “Circus” Tour Books Return for More U.S. Dates
Britney Spears‘ Circus has booked a return trip to the States. The tour launched in Louisiana in March and recently headed off to Europe, but today Spears’ official Website has announced a new slate of North American dates that hit some of the cities she skipped the first time around. The fresh dates kick off August 20th in Hamilton, Ontario, and the first American gigs are a pair of shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden on August 24th and 25th. The last time Spears played the Garden was December 2001 on her “Dream Within a Dream Tour” supporting Britney. Her 2004 “Onyx Hotel Tour” was cut short by the knee injury she sustained on the set of her “Outrageous” video.
“I’m so excited to bring ‘The Circus’ back to North America,” Spears said in a statement. “I’ve made some really cool changes to the show that I think my fans are really going to love. I also get to bring the show to some new cities we missed the first time around.” (Read Rolling Stone’s report from Spears’ New York Circus show). The 20-city trek wraps September 27th at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay. Tickets go on sale starting June 19th.

The Circus tour has been a major part of Spears’ comeback following a tumultuous two years that saw her hospitalized twice and lose custody of her two sons. (Track Britney’s rise, fall and comeback, in photos.) The trek has seen a little bit of drama so far: Spears delayed a Vancouver show over marijuana smoke in the arena and suffered a handful of wardrobe malfunctions. In May, a fan was arrested for rushing the stage and attempting to dance with Spears during “Womanizer.”
Offstage, Spears has been busy as well. This week, topless photos that allegedly depict the star on the set of her 2007 video shoot for “Gimme More” leaked. And legal battles over restraining orders against her ex-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib and ex-manager Sam Lutfi led to accusations that Spears’ life is a “prison” under the conservatorship that grants her father full control over her legal and financial affairs. Spears’ next video, for Blackout and Circus track “Radar,” is due soon.
