Beatles DVD Due in Spring
A five-disc Beatles Anthology DVD box set will be released on March 31st. The first four discs will contain the original 1996 TV documentary, which traced the Beatles‘ evolution from a small Liverpool club act to the world’s biggest band, while the eighty-one-minute fifth disc will feature previously unreleased material.
Among the bonus footage is Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr jamming in 1994 — the only time the three played together since the 1970 breakup of the Beatles. The sessions, composed of non-Beatles material, took place in Abbey Road studios and Harrison’s England home during the making of “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love” — a pair of songs the surviving Beatles completed using John Lennon’s original vocals.
In other Beatles news, Paul McCartney announced dates for his first European tour in ten years, a run of shows set to begin March 25th in Paris. “I had a lot of fun touring this show across America last year,” he said. “Instead of being exhausted I felt exhilarated . . . We’ll be playing a lot of Beatles stuff, some Wings stuff and some more recent stuff, so basically the show pretty much spans my whole career.”
