Sleeper Agent Talk cruising with Weezer
Indie label Mom + Pop Records, home to acts like Sleigh Bells and Metric, is poised to have another breakthrough band in Kentucky rockers Sleeper Agent. It seems like a good deal for everyone involved. “They’re a true indie label; you know everyone that works there and you can just talk to them any day you want,” raved singer Alex Kandel backstage at Rolling Stone‘s Rock Room party for the second weekend of Coachella. Added bassist Lee Williams, “It’s interesting because I feel like they’re growing with us. Even just the number of employees and the number of bands when we signed, it’s doubled since then.”
As Sleeper Agent prepare to record and perform new material, they’re enjoying the gigs that have come their way since releasing their 2001 album, Celabrasion. “The Weezer cruise was crazy,” said Kandel of the nerd-rockers’ raucous boat tour from Miami to Mexico. “It was insane just being on this boat with all these really hardcore fans of Weezer and other bands, and then sharing the same space with bands that we love, like Yuck and Wavves…I loved it, but I don’t think we could have survived if it was longer than four days.”
