Flashback: Pete Townshend and Jack White Unplug For ‘The Seeker’
When the Who hit the road in 2006 behind their just-released LP Endless Wire, the shows were largely confined to massive arenas. But during downtime from the tour, Pete Townshend and his girlfriend Rachel Fuller began a concert series called In the Attic that was the opposite of everything the Who were doing. They played acoustic sets at tiny clubs, and even in a an Airstream trailer backstage at festival gigs. It was a great opportunity for Townshend to break out hidden gems from his long catalog, and to jam with everyone from Lou Reed to Adele to the Flaming Lips.
Check out one of those collaborations above – an amazing unplugged rendition of “The Seeker” with Pete Townshend and the Raconteurs. As you can tell, the performances were rather impromptu. They didn’t even decide who would take lead vocals until a half-second before they began, and Townshend took over when White blanked out at the bridge.
Here’s hoping Townshend revives the series when the Who hit the road on their Quadrophenia tour later this year.
