Bono Sings for Iraqi People
U2 frontman Bono will team with opera legend Luciano Pavarotti for a concert to aid Iraqi civilians uprooted by the war. The event, the tenth edition of Pavarotti’s annual benefit, is scheduled for the tenor’s hometown of Modena, Italy, May 27th.
It will be the second time the two singers have teamed up to benefit war victims. At the 1995 concert, also in Modena, they dueted to raise money for Bosnian children. Bono wrote the track “Miss Sarajevo” for that occasion and then recorded it along with Pavarotti, the members of U2 and their longtime producer Brian Eno for the Passengers album that year.
Proceeds from the May concert will go to the United Nations’ High Commission for Refugees, currently spearheading the relief effort in the Middle East.
