Mariah Carey Readies First Tour in Three Years
Five-time Grammy winner Mariah Carey will take to the road this summer for a two-month, thirty-city arena run slated to kick off in Miami August 5th and run through October 10th in Phoenix. The Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, the Hits, the Tour will be Carey’s first outing in more than three years. Dancehall star Sean Paul will open the first month of the trek, with more openers to be announced. Special guests will also appear in select cities.
Carey will be touring in support of last year’s The Emancipation of Mimi, which has thus far sold more than six million copies. According to the singer’s Web site, which boasts of the “most elaborate concert production of Mariah’s career” and promises “surprises every night,” Carey will also draw on her back catalog of hits, a few of which have never been performed live.
In December, the divine Miss M’s single “Don’t Forget About Us” reached Number One, tying Elvis Presley’s total of a whopping seventeen Number One songs, and bringing the diva just three chart-topping singles shy of the Beatles’ record.
“In the past, I knew people wanted certain formulaic things from me,” Carey told Rolling Stone early last year. “By ‘people,’ I mean executives. But the funny thing is, I’ve always known that what I really love would be commercially successful.”
Tickets for most dates go on sale June 2nd at tickets.mariahcarey.com. A special presale for Honey B. Fly Fan Club members is currently underway for select performances.
