Back in 2008, it seemed Manhattan band the Virgins were ready for a full-fledged breakthrough. After following their acclaimed 2007 debut EP, The Virgins ’07, with a major label full-length, The Virgins, the group disappeared. Now frontman Donald Cumming has reformed his band, bringing in new members John Eatherly (drums), Xan Aird (guitar) and Max Kamins (bass) for a new 7″ single entitled “Venus in Chains.”
“I was reading about feminist artists like Nancy Spero, Adrian Piper, Ana Mendieta and Roseanne Barr. The song came out of a celebration of them,” explains Cumming. “We recorded it pretty fast, and it was done in a couple of takes. Something was on our side . . . after all, God is a woman.”
The Virgins will release a new record later this year, with no title or release date set. “Venus in Chains” will be available May 26th through Glassine Box. Preorders for the single are available on the website, and you can download the song here.
