Florence Welch Talks Vocal Injury, Performs on ‘Good Morning America’
Though she suffered a vocal cord injury just last week, Florence Welch took the stage at Good Morning America to perform her new single, “Spectrum,” and knock a few socks off, her voice sounding as solid as ever.
“I actually felt something go pop or snap, or whatever,” Welch told Us Weekly. “Whatever it is, it was very frightening. I had to really adjust, because it happened in the middle of a show.” The injury forced Welch to cancel shows at the Benicassim Festival in Spain and the Optimus Festival in Portugal.
After check-ups with doctors and a week of rest, however, Welch is back in action, returning to the States to continue the U.S. leg of her tour.
“I had a full check-up, and he said that there wasn’t any permanent damage that couldn’t be restored without rest,” she said. “So if I keep taking care of myself there won’t be any reoccurrences.”
Welch admitted that the hardest part of her recovery was forgoing coffee: “I had been on such a caffeine kick up until then,” she added. “I was fully back on five Diet Cokes a day and two coffees in the morning. I was really twitching my way through life, but I was completely loving it. And I had to cut it out completely. And I managed to get properly hurt again and had to cut everything out, so I’m back on the herbal tea.”
