Foo Fighters Pull a prank on protesters
The Foo Fighters executed an excellent prank on September 16th when they gave a free flatbed truck performance to a group of protesters who were picketing the band’s show later that night in Kansas City. The Westboro Baptist Church had organized the picket in protest of what they claimed, in an official WBC press release, was the band’s endorsement of “fornication, adultery, idols, fags.” Failing to cite any specifics, the end of the press release merely states one of their mottos: “God hates fag enablers.”
“We had a little something up our sleeve,” the band counters in a five-minute documentary posted to their YouTube channel. Inside their dressing rooms at the Sprint Center, the Foos got dressed up in outrageous redneck costumes, fastening on fake beards, wigs, cowboy boots, flannel shirts and trucker hats. They then jumped on the back of a flatbed truck, which pulled right up in front of the protest as they launched into “Keep It Clean,” a parodic country ode to homosexual love and sex.
“I don’t care if you’re black or white or purple or green, whether you’re Pennsylvanian or Transylvasian, Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum,” said Grohl, satirically preaching to the protestors. “It takes all kinds: man loving woman and woman loving man, man loving man and woman loving woman – you know, we all like to watch that,” he joked. “But what I’d like to say is… God bless America, y’all.”
