KATLA
In the two years since her boozy, confessional debut, Ida Maria Sivertsen has grown from an excitable and neurotic newcomer into something like Jack White’s dream girl – a clever badass who wails bluesy ball-busters like Joan Jett by way of Janis Joplin. Produced by Butch Walker (Weezer, Avril Lavigne), KATLA is all big, trashy riffs and wicked disses (“The northern winds are blowing while someone’s blowing you,” she sings on “10,000 Lovers”). Ida Maria asks the universe to even the score with a slippery hustler on “Bad Karma,” but she seems happier taking matters into her own hands on the mariachi(!)- laced “I Eat Boys Like You for Breakfast.”
