Jamie Foxx Stays on Top
In a much slower sales week, Oscar-winning actor turned singer Jamie Foxx topped the chart for the second consecutive week with his sophomore release, the R&B record Unpredictable, selling another 131,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This puts the Ray star’s first effort just shy of the million mark. Foxx continues to edge out previous Number One, R&B diva Mary J. Blige‘s The Breakthrough, which took second place again with 118,000 units moved.
Eminem’s first-ever hits compilation, Curtain Call, sold another 109,000 CDs to hold onto Number Three. And the one major debut this week came from the Strokes, whose third album, First Impressions of Earth, landed at Number Four (88,000). This matches the chart ranking of the New York rockers’ last effort, 2003’s Room on Fire — although that record sold more than 40,000 more copies in its first week out.
Holding fast to Number Five (81,000) is American Idol Carrie Underwood’s country debut, Some Hearts, while another serious chart regular, Mariah Carey’s Grammy-nominated hit The Emancipation of Mimi, climbed back up two spots to Number Six (74,000).
The Notorious B.I.G.’s compilation of posthumous collaborations, Duets: The Final Chapter, featuring material from the vault reworked with Jay-Z, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and others, fell three places to Number Seven (74,000). Hip-hoppers Black Eyed Peas saw their long-running blockbuster, Monkey Business, move another 63,000 CDs to stick to Number Nine. And Canadian rockers Nickelback’s All the Right Reasons held onto the Top Ten, falling three spots to Number Ten (58,000).
Next week, expect Foxx to finally pass one million in sales.
