Drake Earns High School Diploma
Drake has finally earned his high school diploma after dropping out when he took a starring role on the hit Canadian series Degrassi: The Next Generation. He scored a 97 on his final exam and an 88 in the course, Drake tweeted last Friday. “One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school!”
As the International Business Times notes, Drake had been studying and finishing the course work needed for a high diploma with teacher Kim Janzen – who teaches at Vaughan Road Academy in Ontario – over the past five months.
Drake discussed his decision to drop out in an interview with Kentucky Sports Television during a recent visit to the University of Kentucky, where he’d been invited to be a guest coach for an alumni game by the school’s basketball coach John Calipari.
“I actually dropped out of high school, which I don’t know if a lot of people know that,” Drake said. “But I dropped out of high school, I never really got like a great school experience. And when Coach Cal asked me to come here for the first Midnight Madness it just really gave me a sense of school, a sense of love, a sense of belonging to something. So that’s why I feel like I belong to the UK family, and that’s why I’m graduating from high school this month. So, I’m actually inspired by UK, inspired by these boys right here.”
Drake isn’t the only music star to score a diploma recently either. Back in July, Justin Bieber earned his high school diploma from the St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford, Ontario. “I just finished high school,” he told the Daily Telegraph in May. “I passed my test – I’m free! It was hard doing school and work every day.”
