Simon & Garfunkel Reschedule Tour Due to Vocal Strain
Simon & Garfunkel have been forced to postpone their North American tour — originally scheduled to run now through May — until July because Art Garfunkel is suffering from vocal strain, which made it difficult for him to hit his signature high notes and harmonies during the duo’s first show at this past weekend’s New Orleans Jazz Festival. “In an effort to provide the highest quality performance for their audience, Paul & Art decided it would be best to move the scheduled concert dates,” the duo’s rep said in a statement, adding the shows have been pushed back far enough to allow for an “adequate period of rest and rehabilitation” and that Garfunkel is expected to make “a complete recovery.” The tour is set to relaunch July 3rd in Vancouver.

As Rolling Stone reported from Jazz Fest, Garfunkel struggled at the pair’s headlining show over the weekend, leaving Simon to carry most of the vocals alone. When fans near the front of the stage alerted Garfunkel that his voice was low in the mix, Garfunkel responded, “It’s not that the mike is not on. It’s that the voice is a little elusive right now.”
The Jazz Fest show was Simon & Garfunkel’s first concert since last year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary appearance at New York’s Madison Square Garden and the first of their planned 17-date tour.
