Youngblood Hawke Dive Below the Surface in ‘We Come Running’ – Premiere
Los Angeles band Youngblood Hawke call “We Come Running” their “personal anthem.” In the video for their breakout single, the musicians hang out underwater, surrounded by liquid visuals, where they play music and scuba dive with sharks in time with the energetic, triumphant track. However, despite the playful feel of the video, the band has a deeper message of environmental conservation.
“Aside from the challenge of facing our fears, we wanted to get in the open water with giant sharks to prove to people that they aren’t the bloodthirsty killers Hollywood would like us to believe that they are,” the band tells Rolling Stone. “Lately, shark attacks have been all over the news, and the negative stigma attached to them is continuing to increase. Most all attacks occur when sharks mistake people for food. We swam face-to-face with these creatures. They wanted nothing to do with us. They were curious about us and the bubbles erupting from our masks, but they had no intention of ripping us in half.”
“Sharks are being slaughtered and are in danger of being wiped out,” adds the group. “They play a vital role in the food chain and without them, the ecosystem could not survive. Being close enough to have these majestic creatures brush past us was an experience that words cannot describe. They were intelligent, curious and represent the power and mystery of nature. We’d like to be a part of preserving that. Hopefully, this video will help shine a light on the importance of these gorgeous, misunderstood animals and their important role in our ecosystem.”
“We Come Running” is on Youngblood Hawke’s debut EP, Youngblood Hawke. The band also made Rolling Stone an eclectic custom playlist featuring Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Notorious B.I.G., Miley Cyrus, A$AP Rocky and more.
