Irn Mnky Honors His Hero in the ‘DJ Shadow Mix’ – Premiere
Three years ago, producer Irn Mnky entered a remix contest held by DJ Shadow. His submission impressed the turntablist pioneer quite a bit; the remix of Shadow’s “Walkie Talkie” entered regular rotation on Shadow’s live show. Here, Irn Minky curates and remixes a deeply thoughtful mini-mix of DJ Shadow cuts, from the classic Endtroducing….. to last year’s The Less You Know, the Better.
“I was asked to put this together, a 20-minute mix for someone who has been a great influence on me,” Irn Mnky tells Rolling Stone. “Shadow’s incredible and vast discography made this a big challenge, as it could easily have been a two-hour-plus mix. So I decided to do the mix from an angle that incorporated my own production and remix background.”
His idol is appreciative of the effort. “He’s got a great sensibility for crafting sound, and I consider myself a fan,” says DJ Shadow.
DJ Shadow’s The Definitive DJ Shadow box set is out today. He is also touring throughout December; for full dates, visit DJ Shadow’s website.
