DJ Paul van Dyk Planning His Biggest Stage Show Yet
German electronic powerhouse DJ Paul van Dyk is taking his biggest stage show ever on the road. “I went and looked at who has done a really phenomenal production show – Muse,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I think everybody agrees they have the biggest, best show over the last two years. And I went to these guys who actually developed the whole sort of stage design and light design and everything, and we’ve been developing that concept together.”
The tour is in support of the forthcoming Evolution album, due in February. Van Dyk is playing some of the songs, including “Symmetry” and “Everywhere,” in his set now, but he can’t wait to unveil the full album. “It’s always difficult as an artist to talk about your music, but friends of mine who’ve heard these things say it’s the best music I’ve ever done,” he says. “I’m really excited to actually let the beast loose.”
Evolution finds van Dyk teaming up with artists from the electronic world and beyond, including Austin Leeds, Johnny McDaid and Owl City’s Adam Young. Musically, as the title indicates, the album is a next step for him. “My music grows with me, it’s kind of a logical progression,” he says. “And obviously throughout the last three or four years of working on the album I learned a lot, saw a lot, had a lot of things that inspired me and that’s all in the album. Also, I think when you get older you get more self-confident to actually put all that into an album.”
