Ad-Rock Will Return to Stage for Benefit in New York
Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz will make his first public performance since the death of his Beastie Boys bandmate Adam “MCA” Yauch tonight at a benefit concert in Brooklyn for imprisoned members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot. Horovitz will DJ, and the show will include live sets by Heliotropes, Shady Hawkins and TinVulva. The show, which is being put on by the feminist art group Permanent Wave, will be held at Death by Audio in Williamsburg and admission will be offered on a sliding scale with a minimum $7 donation.
Three members of Pussy Riot – Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Ekaterina Samucevich – were charged with hooliganism and have been remanded in jail, facing up to seven years imprisonment for allegedly participating in a punk rock demonstration against the regime of Russian president Vladimir Putin. The benefit show will raise money to support the musicians’ legal defense.
