“Eminem Show” Gets an Encore
As Eminem and the rest of the pop world learned this week, there’s nothing like movie theaters to drive folks to record stores. Thanks to the barrage of trailers for the rapper’s new film, 8 Mile, he returned to the top of the charts after eight weeks away. The Eminem Show moved 172,000 copies this past week, according to SoundScan, to reclaim the Number One spot from Nelly’s Nellyville, which sold 162,000 copies. It is the sixth week in all that The Eminem Show has topped the charts.
Elsewhere on the chart, Avril Lavigne is living up to her title of teen-pop slayer, as her Let Go climbed two slots from the previous week to claim the Number Three spot. Rock vets Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor also hung tough, with their respective albums, The Rising and October Road, coming in at Number Five and Six.
The week’s two big chart debuts came from the hip-hop world, with Virginia duo the Clipse seizing the Number Four spot with their debut, Lord Willin’, and Angie Martinez grabbing Number Eleven with her new one, Animal House.
Next week Eminem has his work cut out for him to stay on top, as another hip-hop heavy-hitter Eve’s Eve-Olution makes its chart debut.
This week’s Top Ten: Eminem’s The Eminem Show; Nelly’s Nellyville; Avril Lavigne’s Let Go; Clipse’s Lord Willin’; Bruce Springsteen’s The Rising; James Taylor’s October Road; Now That’s What I Call Music! 10; Linkin Park’s Reanimation; Toby Keith’s Unleashed; Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me.
