Two weeks after LeBron James announced he was going to the Miami Heat, Lil Wayne, a devout sports fanatic who has a house in LeBron’s new Florida hometown, has finally offered his thoughts on the move. “I believe that this Miami team will be explosive as intended,” Wayne wrote on his blog. “Anything less than an NBA championship title will be uncivilized. 72-10 anybody?” [Weezy Thanx You]
Beck, Snow Patrol and Robert Smith will contribute to a tribute album for late Scottish singer-songwriter John Martyn. David Gray, Paolo Nutini, Beth Orton and Devendra Banhart will also contribute covers to the disc, which currently does not have a release date. [John Martyn Official Website]
The Smashing Pumpkins will perform a July 27th Chicago benefit concert for Matthew Leone, bassist of the local band Madina Lake. The money will help cover medical costs for Leone, who suffered severe brain trauma after an assault. [Smashing Pumpkins Official Website]
The second season hasn’t even started, but the Jersey Shore will return for a third season on MTV, the cable network announced. Cast member Angelina, who left the show during the first season but returned for the second, has not signed on for the third installment. [TMZ]
D.C. Hardcore pioneers Fugazi will launch a digital archive of their entire live recording catalog as early as this year. The band hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but guitarist Guy Picciotto promises, “Every show we ever played will be available for download.” [Music Radar]
Arcade Fire have posted an animated short to promote their upcoming show at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the band’s first headlining show at the iconic venue.
