Van Halen to Rock On With David Lee Roth
In the new issue of Rolling Stone — on newsstands today — Brian Hiatt catches up with guitar hero Eddie Van Halen. The guitarist is having a busy year: he launched a new Website where fans can buy replicas of his gear (and tennis shoes), he’s getting married in June … and he’s already writing new Van Halen material. “I’ve got tons of music written, such a variety of stuff,” he tells us. “The essence of me is obviously there, and those drums, they’re always recognizable. But people expect a certain thing from Van Halen, and this isn’t exactly bang-your-head-against-the-wall stuff.” And yes, he plans to keep his reunion with David Lee Roth going. Last year’s Van Halen tour grossed $93 million, after all.
