Exclusive Stream: Patrick Stump Embraces Club Pop on ‘Soul Punk’

Patrick Stump‘s debut solo album Soul Punk marks a bold new direction for the former Fall Out Boy frontman, who has left behind the arena-filling emo angst of his old band in favor of super clean, R&B-inflected club tracks influenced by mega-hits by Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Timbaland and Prince. Stump, who has always had a soulful quality to his voice, sounds totally natural in these tracks, which range from stadium-size bangers “Explode” and “Spotlight (New Regrets)” to class-conscious floor-fillers “Dance Miserable” and “Coast (It’s Gonna Get Better).” Soul Punk will hit stores on October 18th, but you can preview the album in full now, and preorder it here.
