The Roots Set to Debut New Song Tonight on “Fallon”
The Roots will double as house band and musical guest on tonight’s episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, when the hip-hop collective debut the title track from their upcoming album How I Got Over on the show, Billboard.com reports. Originally slotted for a summer release, How I Got Over will instead hit stores October 20th. “The Roots will announce that WE are pushing back our 11th project How I Got Over (def jam/universal) until Oct. it shall be worth the wait,” ?uestlove wrote on his beloved Twitter.
According to Billboard.com, other songs that will feature on the album include “Walk Alone,” “The Day” featuring Icelandic singer Patty Crash and a cover of Frank Zappa’s Hot Rats‘ classic “Peaches En Regalia.” The Roots will also reportedly include a version of Cody Chesnutt’s “Serve This Royalty,” the sixth track on Chesnutt’s The Headphone Masterpiece. That album’s seventh track, “The Seed,” was also rerecorded by the Roots, with the band turning “The Seed (2.0)” into the biggest hit on their 2002 album Phrenology.
Starting this Friday, June 27th, the Roots will navigate away from Fallon‘s set and head out to play some dates on this year’s nomadic Rock the Bells festival. The Roots will also host jam sessions nearly every Tuesday night this summer at New York’s Highline Ballroom. Anyone who attended this year’s Roots Picnic in Philadelphia can attest that these jam sessions are must-see events. Check the Roots’ tour dates over at their MySpace page.
