Song Premiere: Flaming Lips and Ghostland Observatory, ‘Tasered And Maced’
The Flaming Lips have announced a full physical and digital release for The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, the band’s exclusive Record Store Day collaboration album, on June 26th. Previously available only on limited edition multi-colored vinyl, the album will feature collaborations with 15 artists, ranging from mainstream icons (Kesha, Bon Iver) to experimental noise-makers (Lightning Bolt, Prefuse 73) to Biz Markie.
The CD and digital release will also feature “Tasered and Maced,” an exclusive new track featuring Aaron Behrens of electro-funk duo Ghostland Observatory. The song is a spoken-word account of a violent, alcohol-fueled encounter with a police officer, set to whining synth riffs and sampled studio chatter. It will take the place of “I Don’t Want You to Die,” a collaboration with Coldplay‘s Chris Martin.
In the meantime, the insanely busy Flaming Lips are plotting a record-breaking 24-hour tour of the South, touring Europe in July, and preparing a brand new studio album for release in the fall. Check out Heady Fwends‘ track listing, and listen to “Tasered and Maced” below:
