Tom Morello: Free ‘Rebel’ Documentary Is ‘A Way of Giving Back’
Tom Morello released 42 versions of his World Wide Rebel Tour documentary on May Day, a.k.a. International Worker’s Day, the same day he led a “guitarmy” through New York as part of the Occupy movement’s organized protests around the holiday. The 30-minute film, which was directed by Bobby Roth, features an interview with Morello and live performances from the Nightwatchman’s most recent record, World Wide Rebel Songs.
The 42 versions of the documentary are specific to 42 countries, with language adjusted for native tongues and guest spots from locals. “It’s 42 voices from 42 countries, and a couple of them are people you might have seen before,” Morello told Rolling Stone. “Serj Tankian does the Armenian one, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme does the Portuguese one. But for the most part, it’s just folks. It’s the stories, the songs and the struggles of people around the globe who have informed my music, and this World Wide Rebel tour free documentary is a way of giving back in a medium that I’ve never seen before from a U.S. artist.”
The 42 country-specific versions of the film are as follows: Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Greece, Haiti, Holland, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malawi, Mexico, Myanmar, Palestine, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Tibet, United Kingdom, United States, Uzbekistan. The film is available to stream or download for free from the documentary’s official website.
