Peter Travers: ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Is the ‘King Daddy’ of This Year’s Summer Epics
When it comes to Christopher Nolan‘s third Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises, you have to get the tough question out of the way off the bat: Is it as good as its predecessor, The Dark Knight? “No – I have to say that right up front,” says Peter Travers, noting that movie’s remarkable performance from Heath Ledger as the Joker. But should you still see The Dark Knight Rises? “You’ve got to see it. Even at nearly three hours, Christopher Nolan makes all the other superhero movies look ‘meh.’ They just don’t have the grandeur that he gives them.” Travers runs down the key elements of the new Batman flick, like new villain Bane and Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman, praises the film’s massive, seat-rumbling size and Christian Bale’s performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and also gives a few tips for how to prepare before catching Dark Knight Rises in theaters (step one: watch Batman Begins again).
