Lil Wayne Gives First Jailhouse Interview
Lil Wayne gave his first interview from New York’s Rikers Island prison yesterday, calling in to Funkmaster Flex’s radio show with an update on his life behind bars and his post-jail plans, Nah Right reports. When Weezy is released in November, approximately 91 days from now, he has plans to collaborate with two rappers immediately. “I’ve been saying to myself that I really wanna do a song with either Andre 3000, or my man, I really like my man Tech N9ne from the West Coast,” Wayne said. The rapper also admitted that since his iPod was confiscated as contraband, he hasn’t been listening to much music. “I don’t listen to no music. If I am listening to anything, it’s sports. That’s because of the simple fact that I’ve never listened to any other music but my own,” Wayne said.

Wayne also talked about his “No Love” collaborator Eminem — “Eminem is really a great dude, he’s been keeping up with me while I’ve been up in here, and I appreciate the support” — and keeping in touch with his Young Money stars like Drake and Wayne’s “future wife” Nicki Minaj. “I call Drake at least a week; I actually call at least three or four times a week but he only picks up once a week,” Weezy joked. “I really don’t like to disturb them, and bother them, in the midst of what they’re doing right now. I know they have a lot on their plate every single day. That’s my thing with everybody. Everybody get mad at me, they’re like ‘Why haven’t you called me?’ And I’d be like, ‘I don’t wanna bother.’ When you’re put in this position right here, I just feel like every time I pick up the phone and dial somebody’s number, I feel like I’m bothering them because I’m in jail. I don’t have nothing else to do but to talk to you.”

Wayne also revealed that the typical day behind bars for him entails waking up around noon, making phone calls (“I got a lot of kids to call”) and then spending hours reading his fan mail. With a minute left before his phone privileges ran out, Weezy gave a quick update on his upcoming EP I’m Not a Human Being, which as Rolling Stone previously reported will be released on Wayne’s birthday, September 27th “only on the Internet.” Human Being will boast tracks Wayne laid down in the weeks before his prison term began on March 8th. Soon after Wayne’s interview, DJ Clue premiered the first single off that EP, “Right Above It” featuring Drake. Listen to the radio rip over at Rap Radar.
