“Band of Gypsys” Gets New Life
The last album approved by the late Jimi Hendrix
before his death in 1970, Band of Gypsys, will be heading
back into the studio for a digital face-lift. The album will be
re-released on Jan 13 on a Hendrix family sanctioned CD edition for
the first time. The project will give legendary Hendrix engineer,>Eddie Kramer, his first crack at remastering the tracks from the original two-track mixdown master tapes for compact disc.
The new album will feature the original album artwork plus a new
24-page booklet with liner notes and rare photographs.
“I think Jimi would be really excited about this release,
because “Band of Gypsys” shows a little more of his blues and
R&B side,” says Janie Hendrix-Wright, Jimi’s
sister and President/CEO of Experience Hendrix. “It reveals another
side of his music, a different facet of his creativity.”
