Song Premiere: Deerhoof, ‘Fete D’Adieu’
San Francisco noise-pop outfit Deerhoof release their 11th full-length LP, Breakup Song, on September 4th. The album closely follows on last year’s Deerhoof vs. Evil, and if early preview “Fête D’Adieu” is any indication, it marks an even bolder excursion into pop territory.
The track finds singer Satomi Matsuzaki declaring herself “as tough as a robot on the dance floor” over a stuttering guitar groove. “We went for the Keith-Richards-joins-ABBA vibe on this one,” drummer Greg Saunier tells Rolling Stone.
In a statement, Saunier described Breakup Song as “a sensational record of Cuban-flavored party-noise-energy music” and concluded, “If you want to go dancing or do karaoke with Deerhoof, you don’t have to ask twice.”
