Incubus Meet Pretenders
Incubus have recorded three songs for the soundtrack to the Jamie Foxx movie Stealth, which opens July 29th. Among the tracks is a duet with Chrissie Hynde called “Neither of Us Can See.”
“She’s very punk rock, and she holds herself to her own standards,” Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger says of the Pretenders frontwoman. “For the film we wanted to do some type of a duet, and all of us are huge Pretenders fans. She was really fun to have in the studio — she’s the real deal.”
The other two new tracks are “Admiration” and “Make a Move,” which, according to Einziger is likely to be the soundtrack’s first single.
Stealth marks the first time the Southern California hard rockers have written material specifically for a film since 1997’s Spawn. The band relented this time because of the persistence of director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, XXX). “He is a big fan,” Einziger says, “and he wouldn’t stop asking us.”
While the Stealth tracks will likely be the only new music audiences hear from Incubus this year, they have already begun writing the follow-up to last year’s A Crow Left of the Murder. “We’re writing another record at our own pace,” says Einziger. “We did our last record really fast, so I think now we want to spend a little more time.”
Before they head back into the studio, Incubus will make the rounds on the European summer festival circuit this summer.
