“Rock Band” Adds the Who, “Guitar Hero” Gets Patriotic
Both Rock Band and Guitar Hero: Legends of Rock made additions to their respective soundtracks today. Rock Band, forced to watch Aerosmith join forces with Guitar Hero, will add a twelve pack by the Who to their playable catalog on July 15th. The dozen tracks will contain three songs from the band’s famed Live at Leeds concert, making it the first Rock Band download to incorporate live versions of playable tracks. “I’m a fan of Rock Band,” said Who guitarist Pete Townshend. “I play the game with my son and girlfriend and love the way it brings different generations together through music.” The release coincides with the VH1 Rock Honors dedicated to the band on July 17th. That concert will feature tribute performances by Pearl Jam, the Flaming Lips and Tenacious D.
To mark July 4th on Friday, Guitar Hero: Legends of Rock will allow users to download the “Top Gun Theme” for free. At first we thought they were taking about Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” or Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone,” but they mean the actual instrumental theme from Top Gun. The song will available starting July 3rd, giving you two days to fight over who gets to be Maverick and dies while ejecting as Goose./
