Live Nation Buys Consumer Data Analysts BigChampagne
Live Nation, the concert promotions giant that owns Ticketmaster and more than 100 venues around the country, has purchased the entertainment analytics company BigChampagne, creators of the Ultimate Chart. The chart uses a wide variety of measurements to quantify performing artists’ buzz across multiple platforms.
“We’re going from playing a little club to the biggest stage in the world,” BigChampagne founder Eric Garland told the Hollywood Reporter. The company, which has 26 employees, crunches numbers pertaining not just to record sales and radio play but also merchandising, endorsements, YouTube views, social media interest and other data to create a broad, “360-degree” picture of an artist’s appeal.
The goal behind the Live Nation deal, said Garland, is to extend the business-to-business information that BigChampagne generates to the consumer. “We’re trying to improve fan experiences using data analytics,” Garland said. “We’re connecting people with things they love which are nearby, either in physical space or time space.”
