Kelis: I Was Racially Abused at London Airport
R&B singer Kelis has claimed that she was racially abused at a London airport before flying back home to the United States after performing at the Bestival on the Isle of Wight. In a series of tweets, the singer said that a "50-year-old man" called her a "slave," a "disgusting Nigerian" and "Kunta Kinte" when she bypassed a line while going through passport control.

According to Kelis, the United Kingdom is "racially decades behind progression because everything is swept under the rug. People don't talk about it." Though she is critical of the U.K., she admits that her native United States is "the poster child of racial inequality even still with a black president."
Despite the comments on Twitter, the singer has not filed a complaint.
