Injured ‘Spider-Man’ Actor Eager to Return
Christopher Tierney, the dancer/stuntman who was seriously injured in an accident at the December 20 performance of Julie Taymor’s Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, has started speaking to the press about the incident — and says he “can’t wait” to return to the show.
Last night the performer appeared on CBS 2 News in New York and today he was on Good Morning America alongside fellow cast members Reeve Carney, Patrick Page, Jennifer Damiano and T.V. Carpio, who was just added to the main cast as a replacement for the recently departed Natalie Mendoza.

In both interviews, Tierney described the circumstances of the 30-foot plunge that left him severely wounded, insisting that the accident is not a reflection on the quality of the show’s crew. And lead producer Michael Cohl has already extended an open-ended invitation for Tierney to come back to the production.

Though all of the cast members who appeared on GMA expressed confidence in the show’s new safety measures, Tierney’s injuries have raised larger concerns for the actors starring in the superhero musical. Nick Wyman, president of the Actors’ Equity Association, has issued a statement on the AEA’s website in which he says he is “disturbed and distraught” by the production’s accident-prone nature, and promises to work closely with the producers in improving conditions for the cast.
