Jonas Brothers Stoke Taylor Swift Rumors With New “Paranoid”
On Taylor Swift‘s 2008 LP Fearless, there’s a heartbreaking song called “Forever & Always,” which is about her ex-boyfriend, Joe Jonas. Swift actually filmed a MySpace video with a Joe doll in which she refers to their split: “This one even comes with a phone so it can break up with other dolls!” This week, the Jonas Brothers seem to have struck back in the first single from their forthcoming album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times.
The Jonas Brothers posted “Paranoid,” from their June 16th LP, on their MySpace page late yesterday, and while it’s a far, far, far cry from the Black Sabbath song of the same name, it does edge into slightly harder territory than than the sugary power pop of last year’s A Little Bit Longer. On the synth-heavy tune, Joe Jonas is “caught in a nightmare/can’t wake up.” But for those reading for, say, teen turmoil, this passage may set off alarms: “That’s why my ex is still my ex/I never trust a word she says/I’m running all the background checks/And she’s freaking out.” It’s not 50 Cent vs. Rick Ross, but it’s something.
The band has been Tweeting like mad lately, posting updates and photos from the set of the “Paranoid” video shoot; the video was directed by the Malloys, who helmed the band’s previous clip for “Burnin’ Up.”
The Jonas Brothers’ world tour hits the State June 20th in Arlington, Texas, and in March the band revealed the set would be in the round. “We’ve always talked about wanting to do a tour like that, and this has been our first opportunity. It’s a way for us to really connect with our fans,” Nick Jonas said. “This new album for us I wouldn’t say it’s a big jump, but it definitely is a progression in our music and a growth for us,” he noted. “It has a lot of more kind of horns and a lot more strings. Also there’s more to the music rather than just a typical kind of relationship song,” added Joe Jonas.
