Pat Smear Leaves Foos; Stahl Moves In
For the past few months, JAMTV and many other industry insiders have discussed the idea that Pat Smear may leave the Foo Fighters and now the former Nirvana axe-man has officially said goodbye to Foo for good.
Following the band’s performance of “Monkey Wrench” atop the
marquee at Radio City Music Hall, which opened the 14th Annual MTV Video Music Award, Smear introduced the band’s new guitarist, Franz
Stahl.
Stahl was Dave Grohl’s former bandmate in the seminal D.C. band Scream. After Smear stepped down, Stahl joined Grohl and Taylor Hawkins on
“Everlong.”
In a statement issued by the Foo Fighters’ publicists, Stahl said, “I think my brightest moments playing music were with Dave. I saw when Taylor joined the Foo Fighters, there was a spark that reminded me of the time Dave came over to the basement to audition for Scream.”
