Cee Lo Green to Record Song for NFL
Cee Lo Green will lend his voice to this year’s Thursday Night Football theme, Billboard reports.
The song is reportedly called “I Love Football” and is set to the tune of the Ramones‘ “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Each week, games will open with a 90-second video clip shot and uploaded to the web by fans performing the Cee Lo’s “Fanthem,” as the NFL is calling it.
“It’s finally that time again . . . and I really love my football,” Green said in a statement. “The NFL always brings us the biggest and brightest entertainment spectacle in sports and now with ‘Fanthem,’ NFL Network gives loyal fans the chance to participate!”
Green will be in tow to help belt out the track with fans when the song makes its official debut on September 13th before a match-up between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.
In other Cee Lo-related news, The Voice coach announced he’s prepping a Christmas album that finds the singer putting a “soulful spin on Christmas classics.” He worked on the album with Glee executive music producer Adam Anders. “I did a version of ‘You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,'” Green said. “That says a lot. Just ponder on that.”
