Pixies Warm Up Live Albums
The Pixies only offered four LPs during their short, seven-year run, but the alt-rock favorites will pad the catalog by releasing fifteen live albums from their upcoming North American reunion tour.
The group, which reunited earlier this year, begins the string of “warm up” dates on April 13th in Minneapolis, before heading to Europe for a string of performances. Fans hungry for a taste of the Pixies reunion would do well to find themselves west of the Mississippi River this month. The opening night show is the farthest east the group is scheduled to go. Further, the live albums will be pressed at the shows in a limited edition of 1,000, with the exception of their May 1st Coachella Valley Festival gig, where 2,000 discs will be made. Fans can buy a $25 voucher prior to show time and exchange it for a two-CD set of the performance once it is complete. The sets will include artwork that list the date and venue.
There will be a few opportunities for those who do not attend the shows to obtain a copy of one of the sets. Five-hundred live CDs (over the span of all fifteen shows) will be pre-sold through disclive.com for $22 plus shipping. Any albums that don’t sell at the shows will also be sold online. Once the print run is expended, the albums will be discontinued.
